About the workshop
The focus of this summer’s hip hop and jazz/funk workshop is to
expose you to a wide range of dance techniques studying with the most
influential teachers in the area. You will learn the history of various
forms of dance styles such as locking, popping, House, breaking,
capoeira ,and the latest Jazz/funk dance moves. Each student will be
able to work at their own pace. They will be given the special attention
necessary to help make transitions between each of these dance skills
easier. Every dancer will learn to develop his or her own dance style
through various exercises and professional guidance.

Graffiti is an outstanding form
of artistic expression! In this creative environment, various techniques
of graffiti as well as history of graffiti will be studied. Students
will create graffiti on t-shirts
The Teachers
Cesa Zuniga
has been mostly breakin’ but Cesa has recently branched out into other
realms of dance: poppin, lockin, hip hop and jazz. He performs with
Chosen Dance Company under Clyde Evans. He gives lecture
demonstrations in schools in Philadelphia, Baltimore and Princeton
University. Cesa performed for his first time with ContempraDance
Theatre in the “Philly-Nutt-Crak-Up” as one of the breakin’ rats.
Other performances include, Olive by Raphael Xavier, the X
games, Governor’s Ball 2003 and 76ers halftime show with
Mixturez dance company. Cesa competes in breakin’ competitions in the
US. He teaches at various studios throughout the area as well as
ContempraDance
Aleksa Chmiel
trained with Rennie Harris, Don Campbell, Popin’ Pete, Crazy Legs, Mr.
Wiggles and Stretch. An original company member with Rennie Harris
Puremovement, she toured internationally in Rome & Jewels. She also
performed internationally with “Cool Heat Urban Beat;” Allen Iverson and
Theo Ratliff Celebrity Basketball Games; and the Aaliyah tribute at the
2001 Power 99 Power concert. AleKsa performs with Ron Wood’s Zen One
and ContempraDance Theatre. She is a member of the Phila. 76ers Dance
Team. She choreographed a piece which was performed at the 2002 NBA All
Star Game. AleKsa teaches throughout Philadelphia and at
ContempraDance.
Ron wood (Zen)
is the founder and artistic director of Zen One Dance
Collective hip hop company combining martial arts, dance and music.
Zen joined Rennie Harris Puremovement in 1995 performing the role
of Tybault in Rome and Jewels. He holds a black belt in Kenpo
Karate and the rank of Professor in ASCAB Capoeira. He has composed
music for Group Motion Dance Company, Rennie Harris, Genghis
Dance Company and for his own choreography for Z.O.D.C. He
teaches at schools and universities nationally and internationally and
currently holds Capoeira classes at the Community Education Center in
Phila.
Tori Closson
has appeared on MTV’s Global Groove. She trained with
Rennie Harris Puremovement studying Hip hop. Tori created the Good
Day Philadelphia Hip Hop Dance Team for Fox of 2000. She also
choreographs for 76er’s Junior Hip Hop Dance Team. Tori
has trained in ballet, pointe, tap and jazz making her a very versatile
dancer. Her unique style of teaching has her busy at several studios in
the Tri-State area. Tori, along with Aleksa, direct their own dance
company, FloMotion combining various forms of hip hop and
jazz/funk.
