ContempraDANCE Theatre originated in Florida and was later granted our non-profit status in Philadelphia in 2002. The Company\u2019s original choreography is by Artistic Director and founder Gail Vartanian, as well as guest artists John Corsa (Momix, Dave Parsons Co. ) and European choreographer, Alassane Wat. The Company has toured Poland and performed at many prestigious festivals. Some highlights include:<\/p>\n

ContempraDANCE Theatre Company’s repertoire includes over twenty works ranging from classical modern dance to post-modern multi-media works. The company presents a hilarious annual holiday dance spoof, “Philly-Nutt-Crak-Up” combining hip hop, jazz, modern, ballet and comedy. In April 2006, the company received its first grant from the Pennsylvania Council of the Arts premiering a multi-media dance work, “Intersect” involving live original music, video art, dancers and imaginative lighting and set designs. Since then the company has been honored with grants for new works including “TimeDance”, depicting dance, music and costumes through different eras and “LifesCircle”, portraying the evolution of woman and celebration of life. The company captivates audiences through its artistic innovation and explosive performances year-round, both locally and abroad. “Breathtakingly Flawless,” “Vartanian’s brilliant choreography shines,” Suburban Wayne Times.<\/p>\n
Residency activities include master classes, lecture\/demonstrations, weekly artist-in-residency programs, artist open rehearsals, pre and post-performance discussions and choreographic ensemble workshops.<\/p>\n
Twice a year, ContempraDANCE Theatre Company sponsors the Youth Regional Dance Festival bringing various pre-professional student dance companies to the stage in a non-competitive atmosphere. The talented dancers perform in a professional venue throughout the Philadelphia and Main Line area.<\/p>\n
